Readers on CJ Arthur's Work

From deep space to dark woods, one thing stays the same. These stories stick with you.

CJ Arthur spins a startling tale. An evil older than memory follows bloodlines across time. And it isn’t finished.

A very good story around real people in history. CJ Arthur is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors

Vega Chambers feels like someone I’d actually want to have a drink with. She’s tough but not invincible, smart but makes mistakes. The whole portal technology and time difference between universes messed with my head in a good way. I kept turning pages just to see what weird alien thing would show up next.

I live near Brevard, so reading this gave me chills. CJ Arthur nailed the feel of our mountains after dark. The way the fog rolls in, the way the woods go quiet. It’s not over-the-top gore or jump scares. Just this slow, creeping dread that made me lock my doors earlier than usual. Solid read.

The action scenes hit hard. Pulse pistols, drone dogfights, hand-to-hand combat with lizard aliens… it’s all there. But what got me was the family stuff. Vega and her dad’s story across ten years of separation, hit close to home. The time dilation twist makes their reunion feel earned, not cheesy.

I’ve always been into Wendigo stories, but this one surprised me. It mixes Cree and Cherokee legends with real history from the 1800s. You can tell the author did homework. The cabin fire scene and the witch’s resurrection felt believable in a creepy way. Not your typical monster story. Glad I picked it up.

I’m usually picky about sci-fi world-building. Too much info dump and I’m out. This one feeds you details naturally. You learn about the USC, The Alliance, and the portals, without feeling like you’re reading a textbook. The jungle planet actually felt dangerous, and those meadow creatures? Creepy. Would recommend.

What hooked me was the family bloodline angle. Monica feels like a real person, not some action hero. She’s just trying to do her job when everything goes sideways. And Jane Redd? Terrifying without being cartoonish. The whole ‘past coming for you’ thing hit different. Made me think about my own family history in a weird way.

Honestly? I picked this up for the alien stuff and stayed for Callista. She’s the villain, but you kinda get why she’s so angry. The half-sister reveal at the end caught me off guard. Made me want the next book immediately. The writing moves fast, too. No boring stretches.

Honestly, I wasn’t sure about the first few pages. But once the hurricane unearthed that grave, I couldn’t put it down. The story jumps between time periods without feeling messy. And the ending? Not cheesy or overly happy. It just fits. The white mountain lion scene still sticks with me days later. Recommend for horror fans who like substance.
